We are the Days--David and JoLyn--and we've been called to serve as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Mexico Xalapa Mission, serving from May 2021 to November 2022.
On March 2, 2020, Dave retired from J-U-B Engineers so we could begin serving as missionaries. We were called to serve in the Tegucigalpa, Honduras temple--a land we love and where we had many friends from our days with Smiles for Latin America.
On March 6, we arrived in Tegucigalpa and loved our first week serving in the temple. Just one week later, on March 15, it was announced that the temple would be closing temporarily because of Covid19. We were put into quarantine for a week and a half, and on March 26, we were sent home along with all the other American missionaries in Honduras and most missionaries worldwide as we all grappled with the worldwide pandemic.
We were heart-broken. We hoped it would only be a couple of months and we would be back serving in Tegucigalpa. We watched as many young missionaries were reassigned to other missions in the United States. We kept hoping for the day when we would be sent back to Honduras. But month after month went by, with no mission for us in sight.
Finally, in January of 2021, we knew that a return to Honduras wasn't going to happen, and on February 23, 2021, we received a new mission call to serve as office specialists in the Mexico Xalapa Mission!
We are so thrilled to be serving as full-time missionaries once again. This is a dream we've had all our lives. This blog will share our story--our experiences here in Xalapa, our stories of serving a senior mission, and our testimonies of our Savior Jesus Christ. We'd love it if you join us!
